In 2016, less than half ,or 26%, of elected politicians (Governor, Vice Governor, Provincial Board Member, Congressman, Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Councilor) in Bataan are considered fat dynastic.

The province of Bataan has been ruled by political dynasties over the past  decades. The following are the most common surnames of elected officials in 2016.


The Garcia clan’s recent prominence in Bataan’s politican scene started in 1987 with Enrique Garcia serving as House Member. Since then, several members of the clan have recently occupied various positions such as Governor, House Member, and Mayor.


According to PSA's most recent data, slight improvement in the poverty situation in Bataan has been observed since 2006.
